Underground Conversions

Converting an overhead service to an underground supply (often called an OH-to-UG conversion or UGOH) is specialist Level 2 ASP work. Sydney Power Group (SPG) removes the aerial service line and installs a compliant underground supply, improving safety, reliability and street appeal across Greater Sydney.

These conversions involve the service mains, consumer mains, metering and network connection — all requiring an Accredited Service Provider and full compliance with AS/NZS 3000 and the Service & Installation Rules of NSW.

Why Convert To Underground?

Underground services are protected from wind, falling branches and vehicle strikes, and they remove overhead cables from your streetscape. Conversions are popular during renovations, new builds and heritage-sensitive projects.

SPG installs the underground mains to the correct depth, with approved conduit and cable, and re-terminates at a compliant point of supply.

The Conversion Process

We plan the trench route, arrange dial-before-you-dig checks, install conduit and cabling, and coordinate the changeover so the overhead service line is decommissioned once the underground supply is live.

Where a private pole is being removed, we can also complete private pole works in the same project.

Network Coordination & Certification

SPG manages the network connection with your DNSP and issues the required compliance certificate on energising.
