The point of attachment (POA) is where your property's overhead service cable connects to the building structure — typically a bracket, conduit entry, or weatherboard fitting mounted on the fascia or wall. It is the junction between the network's overhead aerial cable and your consumer mains, and it is exclusively Level 2 ASP work. What Causes Point of Attachment Failures?

The POA fitting is one of the most exposed components of your property's electrical infrastructure. Constant UV exposure causes brackets and conduit fittings to become brittle and crack. Wind loading from overhead cables puts ongoing mechanical stress on the fixing points. In Sydney's summer storm season, fallen branches and high winds are the most common cause of point of attachment damage — either snapping the bracket from the wall, pulling the aerial cable free from the fitting, or bringing the cable down entirely.

Storm Damage Point of Attachment Repairs

When a fallen tree or high wind pulls your service cable from the point of attachment, the situation requires immediate Level 2 ASP response. A downed aerial cable is a safety hazard, and no reconnection can occur until an authorised contractor has made the site safe, assessed the full extent of the damage, carried out the repair, and lodged the compliance notification with Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy. Defect Notice Rectification

Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy issue defect notices for deteriorated or non-compliant point of attachment fittings during routine network inspections. If your property has received a defect notice identifying a POA issue, you have a legal obligation to engage a Level 2 ASP to carry out the rectification within the specified timeframe. We attend within 24 hours, assess the full scope, carry out the required rectification, and lodge the compliance certificate with the network on the same day.

Point of Attachment Upgrades

Where a switchboard upgrade or supply upgrade is being carried out and the existing point of attachment fitting is not rated for the increased cable size or supply capacity, we replace or upgrade the POA as part of the same engagement. This avoids a defect notice being issued after the supply upgrade and ensures the full consumer mains system is compliant from the network connection point through to the switchboard.
