Before a house or building can be demolished in Sydney, the electricity supply must be safely disconnected at the network — switching off the main switch is not enough. Sydney Power Group is an accredited Level 2 ASP authorised to physically disconnect and remove the service on both the Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy networks. We handle the disconnection, meter removal, service removal and the distributor paperwork, then confirm the site is electrically clear so your demolition contractor can start on schedule.
Why the Main Switch Isn't Enough
Turning the power off at the switchboard only isolates the wiring inside the building — the service line from the street, the point of attachment and the meter all remain live at network voltage. Excavators and demolition crews working around a live service risk serious injury and network damage. That's why demolition contractors require the supply to be physically disconnected and removed by an authorised Level 2 ASP before machines arrive on site.

Overhead & Underground Disconnections
For overhead-supplied properties we disconnect at the network pole, remove the overhead service mains and the point of attachment from the structure, and remove any private power pole that's coming down with the site. For underground-supplied properties we isolate and disconnect at the pillar or pit and make the underground service safe so excavation can proceed. We confirm your supply arrangement during quoting so there are no surprises on the day.

Temporary vs Permanent Disconnection
If the site will be rebuilt — a knock-down rebuild or new development — a disconnection that preserves the ability to reconnect is usually the right call, often paired with temporary builders power for the construction phase. If the supply is never coming back, a permanent supply abolishment is required instead. We'll recommend the right option based on your project so you don't pay for works you don't need.

Paperwork, Scheduling & Demolition Clearance
A demolition disconnection involves your electricity retailer (to close or hold the account and arrange meter removal) and the network distributor (to approve the physical disconnection). We coordinate both, schedule the work to suit your demolition date, and provide written confirmation the site is electrically disconnected — the document your demolisher and certifier will ask for. To quote we typically need the site address, a photo of the meter box and the front of the property, and your target demolition date. Call 0466 125 125 or use our contact page.
