The Problem With Rewireable Fuses

A rewireable fuse blows when a circuit is overloaded or faulted — the same protective principle as a breaker, but slower and less precise. Constantly replacing the fuse wire without finding the cause is unsafe, and using the wrong wire gauge can defeat the protection entirely.

Older fuse boards also usually lack safety switch (RCD) protection, which modern homes require — a key reason to consider moving on from them.

Finding the Fault Behind the Fuse

We carry out electrical fault finding on the affected circuit to work out whether it's an overload, a faulty appliance, or damaged wiring. This tells us whether the fix is load re-balancing, a repair, or an added circuit.

As a Level 2 ASP, we can also assess the consumer mains feeding an ageing board, since undersized mains can contribute to the problem.
