Endeavour Energy Explained: Western Sydney's Network

By Sydney Power GroupLevel 2 ASP Knowledge Centre 8 min read

If your property is in western or south-western Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Hawkesbury or the Illawarra, your electricity network is most likely owned and operated by Endeavour Energy. Endeavour is one of the three network distributors in NSW, and like Ausgrid and Essential Energy it owns the poles, wires and connection points in its area. Knowing you're on the Endeavour network shapes which applications, standards and connection methods apply to your Level 2 job.

Who Endeavour Energy Is

Endeavour Energy is the distribution network service provider (DNSP) for a large and fast-growing part of NSW. As with every distributor, it is separate from your retailer: Endeavour owns and maintains the physical network, while your retailer bills you for the energy that flows through it.

Because western Sydney is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, Endeavour's network sees a great deal of new-connection and subdivision work — greenfield estates, new homes and commercial developments all needing to be connected to the grid for the first time.

The Areas Endeavour Energy Covers

Endeavour Energy's network covers western and south-western Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Hawkesbury and the Illawarra. In practical terms that includes Parramatta and the greater west, Penrith, Blacktown, the Hills, Liverpool, Campbelltown and the growing south-west, up through the Blue Mountains, and south to Wollongong and the Illawarra coast.

If your property is in eastern or northern Sydney, the Central Coast or the Hunter, you are more likely on the Ausgrid network, and regional NSW is served by Essential Energy. Your Level 2 ASP will confirm your distributor from your address before lodging any applications.

What a Level 2 ASP Does on the Endeavour Network

A Level 2 ASP accredited for Endeavour Energy can perform network-side work across the Endeavour area: new network connections for homes and developments, overhead and underground service installation, service upgrades and relocations, private pole work, metering, and disconnections and reconnections.

Given the volume of new construction in western Sydney, temporary builders supplies and connections in new estates are especially common on the Endeavour network. The ASP lodges the applications with Endeavour, works to Endeavour's connection standards and the NSW Service and Installation Rules, and makes the physical connection. Sydney Power Group holds current ASP accreditation across all three NSW networks, so we can service Endeavour areas from Parramatta to Penrith to the Illawarra.

Defect Notices on the Endeavour Network

Like the other distributors, Endeavour Energy inspects installations and issues defect notices where work doesn't meet standard — an unsafe service, undersized mains, a non-compliant meter position or a failing attachment. Defects are graded by severity and carry rectification timeframes, with the most serious risking disconnection if left unaddressed.

Rectifying an Endeavour network-side defect is Level 2 work, so it needs an accredited provider. A Level 2 ASP will assess the notice, carry out the rectification and confirm compliance so the notice is cleared.

Getting Connected to Endeavour

For a new connection, subdivision, upgrade or relocation on the Endeavour network, the process runs through your ASP: assessment, connection application to Endeavour, metering, the physical works, and the live connection. Because much of the Endeavour area is new development, coordinating the connection with the build program — from the temporary builders supply through to the permanent connection — is often the key to keeping a project on schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

What areas does Endeavour Energy cover?+

Endeavour Energy covers western and south-western Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Hawkesbury and the Illawarra — including Parramatta, Penrith, Blacktown, Liverpool, Campbelltown and Wollongong.

Is Endeavour Energy my retailer?+

No. Endeavour Energy is your distributor — it owns and maintains the poles, wires and network in its area. Your retailer is the company that bills you for energy. You choose your retailer, but your distributor is fixed by location.

How do I know if I'm on the Endeavour Energy network?+

It depends on your address. Western and south-western Sydney, the Blue Mountains and the Illawarra are generally Endeavour, while eastern and northern Sydney is usually Ausgrid and regional NSW is Essential Energy. A Level 2 ASP can confirm from your address.

Can a Level 2 ASP connect me to the Endeavour network?+

Yes, if they hold current Endeavour ASP accreditation. Sydney Power Group is accredited across all three NSW networks and can carry out new connections, subdivisions, upgrades, metering and disconnections in Endeavour areas.

Is Endeavour a common network for new builds?+

Yes. Western Sydney is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, so the Endeavour network sees a great deal of new-connection, subdivision and temporary builders supply work.

I've received an Endeavour Energy defect notice — what should I do?+

Have it assessed by a Level 2 ASP. Network-side defects must be rectified by an accredited provider, who will fix the issue and confirm compliance so the notice is cleared before any disconnection deadline.

Who owns the network infrastructure in my area?+

If you're in the Endeavour Energy area, Endeavour owns and maintains the poles, wires, substations and connection points up to the point of attachment on your property. Your consumer mains from that point are your responsibility.
