Most Sydney homes with an 80A or 100A supply can run a 7 kW charger on a dedicated 32A circuit. Older homes with a 63A single-phase supply and big loads like ducted air conditioning or a pool are often borderline — a maximum demand assessment determines it, and a consumer mains upgrade fixes it.
Do I need three-phase power for an EV charger?
Not for a 7 kW charger — that runs on single-phase. You need three-phase for 11 kW or 22 kW charging, which roughly halves or quarters charge time. Upgrading to three-phase is Level 2 ASP work involving new consumer mains and metering.
What is dynamic load management for EV charging?
A load-managed charger monitors the home's total demand and throttles charging when the house is busy, so the main supply is never overloaded. It's often the way to fit a charger onto a 63A supply without an upgrade — though an upgrade gives full-speed charging at all times.
